I was bidding on one painting when the slide changed to a new item. I finished my bid and turns out it was on the new slide! I called and explained what happened and, although very nice on the phone, the auction house said too bad, and I was stuck buying a painting that no one else bid on and I didn’t mean to. It’s wasn’t much money, but caveat emptor on telephone bids. I was new to the online bidding, and wasn’t used to the speed the slides change —-and I don’t remember seeing a “fair warning” notice. It happened so fast. I won’t bid there again, sadly.

I made a bid in error on the next lot on Live Auctioneers, by accidentally touching my phone after the lot I was bidding on had closed. Luckily, because the painting was so ugly, it hammered for only $50. Live Auctioneers said it was up to the auction house what to do about it. But Susanin's refused to void the bid, and held me to my contract. You would think customer satisfaction was worth $50 to them, but no. The fact that so little money was involved made their cheapness and lack of client concern even more disheartening and annoying. Luckily for them, people bid based on what they have for sale. So if they have something I want, I'll be back to bid, regardless. But when it's time to sell my substantial collection, I will remember how I was treated over this, and the loss of my business at that time will cost them much more than the $50 they squeezed out of me over this.

Auctioneer house worth recommending

Item description stated “canvas laid on board”. Actually, only found out that the canvas is heavily glued on board. Auction house wont take any discussion except “it was sold as is”. They should know that “sold as is” is based on accurate descriptions. Working with professionals to figure out how to remove the canvas from the board. According to the initial analyzing, most likely, one of the previous owner did it on purpose to cover possible defects/damages.

Susanins listed the item as a dresser. The item pictured a dresser with 4 drawers however NONE of the drawers could be opened or closed-so the item could not function as a dresser. The condition of the item just wasn’t poor, it was not functional so therefore it was not a dresser at all and should have been highlighted on the listing.

Always confirm shipping cost prior to bidding.
