Description
Full length seated studio albumen cabinet card. Denver, Colorado: Duhem Brothers, n.d. Photographer's 448 Larimer St. imprint to mount verso.

A striking portrait of an armed Colorado cowboy. The subject sits with his arms tightly crossed while glaring intently off-camera. His tall leather boots and holstered Colt revolver cut a distinctive portrait.

The Duhem Brothers were a partnership of Constant and Victor H. Duhem, who operated their studio in Denver, Colorado between 1867 and 1879. Interestingly, their business was well-known for having an effigy of a witch operating a box camera on their studio roof. Though they produced a great volume of Colorado stereoviews, the studio went bankrupt in 1874. (Carl Mautz, Biographies of Western Photographers 1840-1900, p. 166).

An excellent, early western photograph.
