Outstanding ship model of the clipper ship Torrens by famous model maker Francis Crowell of Yarmouth Massachusetts. Plank on frame hull and deck. Incredible rigging with all appropriate standing and running cords. Hull is painted red below the waterline and black above. Quality mahogany cabin work. Fitted to a very large display case with marquetry inlay and two doors. The Tall Ship Torrens (1875 - 1910) was a clipper ship designed to carry passengers and cargo between London and Port Adelaide, South Australia. She was the fastest ship to sail on that route, and also the last sailing ship on which Joseph Conrad would serve before embarking on his writing career. The clipper ship Torrens was built at the big shipyard of James Laing of Sunderland. Torrens was 1276 tons and 222 feet long. Overall Dimensions: 81? H x 34? W x 81? L
