Colored by country and region. On this map, the first signs of the Antarctic Coast are shown with a note at the bottom describing the 1841 discoveries of Mt. Terror and Mt. Erebus in Antarctica by Captain Ross. What had been labeled on the 1855 version of the map as “Unexplored Regions” in central Africa is now replete with various geographical details, such as Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika which were discovered in 1858.
