A rare, late holograph letter signed "Dick," penned on his imprinted letterhead to his friend Betty Palmer, consoling her after the loss of her home in the 1993 Malibu Fire, and sending her copies of his works to replenish her library, 1p, measuring 7.25" x 11", Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, dated November 14, 1993. In part: "…I have just learned from Rose [Woods, Nixon's secretary] that you lost that beautiful home in the fire. What a tragedy – your beautiful gardens, personal belongings – all gone. Since you will have to start a new library, I would like to help by sending you under separate cover the special leather-bound edition of all my books and a first edition copy of Six Crises. You don't have to read them but they will look nice on the shelves!...".

Betty Palmer was the widow of Kyle Dulaney Palmer (1890-1971), longstanding political editor of the Los Angeles Times. Dubbed "the political boss of California,"stewarded Nixon's career from his days as a young and little-known attorney in New Jersey, to President of the United States. Betty lost her home on the Pacific Coast Highway during the tragic Malibu Fire of 1993, which destroyed some 16,000 acres and 388 structures.
