Canadian. Wood. A Quebec longcase clock by James Orkney (1760-1832) with the classic fretwork crest on the hood, bracket base, original brass works, and a mahogany veneer case. The arched hood has side windows, while the metal face plate is painted with roses and blue flowers, with each spandrel having a blue oval with gold filigree. The face is marked in black paint, "James Orkney, Quebec" and the works are marked, "Owen, London". The case features crotch grain mahogany on the door and base panel, while the reeded columns on the hood and the quarter columns on the case all have brass line insets and brass capitals. Includes the original weights, pendulum, and door key. The clock is in excellent, refinished, restored condition with polished brass. Some age cracks to the veneer on the door and base panel, minor veneer repairs, minor repair to the rail of the inner hood frame (behind the door), minor water spots on the lower front of the base and left side, brass finials likely replaced.
