
US Model 1861 Rifle Musket by Springfield Dated 1862

.58 caliber. 40" round barrel secured by three flat, spring-retained barrel bands. NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, walnut stock. Single shot percussion muzzleloading rifle musket with a reproduction M1861 pattern three leaf rear sight, Barleycorn combination front sight and socket bayonet lug, sling swivels and a swelled-shank tulip head ramrod. Lock marked with a {Spread-Winged Eagle}/U.S. forward of the hammer and in two horizontal lines U.S./SPRINGFIELD and dated 1862 at the tail. Breech and barrel with no visible markings. No cartouches on counterpane with a spliced wood repair. {ANTIQUE}

Condition
Fair. Bore fair, moderately oxidized with weak rifling. Metal moderately oxidized with a grayish brown patina, scattered surface roughness and some pitting. Markings on lock clear, none on barrel or in wood. Lock mechanically functional. Wood well worn, sanded with rounded edges, showing scattered bumps, dings and mars. A significant piece of wood repair is present on the rear of the counterpane and left side of the wrist, where a piece of wood has been spliced in.
