.54 caliber. 21" barrel. SN: 28173. Oxidized metal, iron furniture, walnut stock and forend. Single shot tilling block percussion breechloading carbine with L-leaf rear sight, pinched front sight, sling swivel in toe and saddle bar and ring. Standard Burnside markings in metal are weak, matching serial numbers on block and frame, no visible marks in wood. While this carbine's number does not appear in the Springfield Research Service serial number books, a couple of guns very close to it do; #28087 and #28216, both of which were issued to Company K of the 7th Michigan Cavalry. {ANTIQUE}

Fair to Good. Bore fair, dark, oxidized and lightly pitted with visible rifling. Mechanically functional action. Wood well worn with a short crack at the reverse wrist, indications of sanding and numerous bumps, dings, dents and mars.
