(1880 - 1964) American general and Allied Supreme Commander in the Pacific in World War II, accepted the surrender of Japan and was later dismissed by Truman for advocating an invasion of China. Good content T.L.S., 1p. 4to., New York, Dec. 30, 1952 to the head of a Lancaster Co. Republican Club. Following two years of attacking Truman and his Democratic policies, MacArthur was considering a run for the presidency. He writes, in part: '...please convey to the membership my most cordial greetings. Tell them at last we have the opportunity and the obligation to fulfill our pledges to the nation and to the world. Everyone is counting not only on their support but on their entusiastic energy in implementing our views...' Folds, fine condition.
