Description
(1879 - 1947) German entrepreneur and National Socialist politician. From 1925 to 1945 he was Gauleiter of Saxony, from 1933 Reich Governor and from 1935 also Prime Minister of Saxony. Mutschmann also became Reich Defense Commissioner and was responsible for the conversion to war-important production as well as the murder of mentally ill people in the Nazi killing center Sonnenstein. He neglected the construction of air raid shelters, but in 1943 he had his own bunker built at his Dresden residence, vastly increasing the deaths from the incendiary air raids of February, 1945. Executed for war crimes. S.P., 4 x 6 in. sepia, a fine portrait as Gauleiter and in uniform, nicely signed at bottom in black ink. Fine.
