T.L.S., 1p. 4to., Pittsburgh, Jun 3, 1988 to the 29th Infantry Division Association, in part: '...I have been asked to write a tribute to...[your] members who were in the assault echelon with the mission of attacking over OMAHA Beach on D-Day, at H-Hour, 06 June 1944. They played a gallant part in the successful accomplishment of the initial stage of what is the most hazardous of all military operations, a landing on a hostile shore. The accomplishment of their mission despite very heavy casualties, is a proud record of in the annals of the United States Army...' He signs ‘M. B. Ridgway’ at the conclusion in black ink.
