(1793 - 1863) American soldier and politician, defeated Santa Anna at San Jacinto and became first president of the Republic of Texas. Scarce imprint ‘Speeches of Hon. Sam Houston, of Texas, on the Pacific Railroad Bill: and in reply to Hon. A. Iverson, of Georgia’, delivered to the Senate on January 12 and 13, 1859 and making the argument for the ‘national advantage’ offered by the new railway. 16pp. 8vo., printed by Lemuel Towers. Disbound, evenly toned and very good. OCLC locates just 13 copies of this imprint.
