.45-70-caliber, serial number 517011, walnut stock with a crisp cartouche on the left side, steel fittings, lock marked with an eagle and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD", breech block marked "U.S./MODEL/1884", barrel marked "V/P" over an eagle head on the breech, with a rod bayonet.
