The Train Passing through Guazhou was photographed shortly before the Spring Festival of 2016 on a train from Lanzhou to Dunhuang. At that time, the train between the two places was still relatively empty; after passing Guazhou Station, there were even fewer passengers and the landscape outside became increasingly barren. Through empty seats, window frames, and the pale view beyond the glass, the work creates a quiet and distant atmosphere, conveying a sense of drift and frontier solitude within the journey.
Liu Jiangling is from Nanjing, Jiangsu, and is now based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. A graduate of the China Academy of Art, he is a photographer, designer, and researcher of historic architecture. His photographic works have been exhibited in galleries and art spaces in Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, and Hangzhou, and are marked by strong visual sensitivity and a keen awareness of space.
