(1815 - 1882) Union brigadier general who was McClellan's and Grant's chief engineer. Cheeky A.L.S. 1p. 4to., [n.p.], Oct. 7, 1874, to Secretary of War Gen. WILLIAM M. BELKNAP, in part: ‘…If the means are not readily or amply available for obtaining [a] portrait of the Superintendent, it will afford me great pleasure to have prepared and present to the Academy my portrait…’. Mounting strip at left margin, else very good. WITH: an unrelated partly-printed L.S. from J. O. Gilman, assistant adjutant general, 1p. 4to., Washington, Aug. 13, 1892, to Col. Thomas Wilson forwarding his commission as ‘Asst. Com. Gen. of Subsistence’.
