Description
(1836 - 1906) Confederate major general, 'Fighting Joe' was a brilliant cavalry officer who raided Rosecrans at Chattanooga and harassed Sherman's army through Georgia and the Carolinas. Wartime manuscript D.S., 1p. 4to., [n.p., n.d.], a ‘Special Requisition’ for wagons, mules and tools. He signs ‘Jos Wheeler’ at the conclusion in black ink approving the requisition, and adds his rank ‘Major General’. Shows original mailing folds, with scattered foxing and very small chips to the edges, otherwise very good.
