(1828 – 1864) Confederate brigadier general and brigade commander, at the Battle of Raymond, on May 12, 1863, his 3000-man brigade fought a tough 6-hour battle against the XVII Corps under McPherson. Later he fought at Chickamauga and in the East, killed in action before Petersburg.
