ENGLISH TRANSFER-PRINTED BONE CHINA ARTICLES, LOT OF 27, including cups and saucers having hand-painted and transfer-printed polychrome chinoiserie and floral designs. Most cups and small dishes with decorator's marks, and dishes having "196" painted on the base, otherwise unmarked. Together with one molded teapot in fair condition and a cover together by association. Twenty-eight (28) pieces total. Staffordshire and other areas. First half 19th century. Cups 2 3/8" H.
Good condition overall with scattered flakes and hairline cracks, one cup missing a handle, one manufacturing crack filled in with glaze. Teapot with hairline cracks and a repaired finial on cover.
Provenance: De-accessioned from the Reeves Collection, Washington and Lee University, and sold to benefit the Acquisitions Fund.
Catalogue Note: One possible maker for this transfer-printed ware is Hilditch and Son, in operation from 1811 to 1833.
