AN VERNACULAR FRUITWOOD KITCHEN TABLE, POSSIBLY SOUTHERN, POSSIBLY AMERICAN, 18TH/19TH CENTURY, the primitive rectangular top with traces of original black ebonizing, green, ocher and brun espagnol paint at edges, over a wide skirt centering a single drawer raised on square tapered legs. Height: 26 7/8" Width: 31 1/4" Depth: 22 3/8" NOTE: Secondary woods are pine and oak. Likely the top has been joined to the base after the turn of the 19th century, however both pieces are period to one another.


Top has been apparently repaired, glued with some residue, later nails added, some splitting along the grain, and had paint stripped. Throughout mild expected surface scratches, gouges, stains and mild chips, finish not original, discoloration, some exposure to woodworm, mostly on base, but otherwise in very good stable condition.
