Framed oil on canvas by Earl Biss (1947-1998, Washington / Montana) . An earlier work, the abstract impressionist painting is titled on the verso "Mind Crow #1". Signed lower right and faintly on the verso. Measures 43.25" x 36.5". Framed, 45" x 38".
BIOGRAPH NOTE: Born in Washington State, Biss became a well-known Native American artist. He was raised by his grandmother on the Crow reservation in Montana. PROVENANCE NOTE: The Earl Biss, as well as most of the other art that we are offering, came from a corporation located in Seattle. The art was originally purchased by one of the founders. He was an art collector and sponsor to many emerging Northwest artists. This painting is an early painting by Biss and we do know that it is far removed from his typical work and his stylized signature. On the verso, his name is written faintly and it is titled Mind Crow #1. Biss was raised by his grandmother on the Crow reservation in Montana. We have no reason to believe that this is not by Biss. The corporation is selling 40 works with us, as they are moving locations within Seattle.
