1) WWI / WWII LION POMMEL SWORD. Overall length: 33". Blade length: 26 3/4". This sword may be a Customs official sword. The pommel is similar to an early naval sword & the scabbard appears to be of naval design. Blade is marked "J.A. HENCKELS ZWILLINGSWERK". Gilded brass hilt w/ a lion's head pommel. Wire wrapped ivory colored grip. Silver sword knot. Gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows original factory polish. Hilt retains 40% of original gilding. Wire & grip are complete. Knot shows light wear but is not correct for this sword. Scabbard body is quite sound w/ only minor scuffs. Gilding on mounts is about 90%. (02-11221/BF). 2) WW I / WWII NAVAL OFFICER'S SWORD. Overall length: 36 1/2". Blade length: 30 1/2". Blade marked "(knights head) WKC". Blade is etched over half its length w/ various nautical & foliate motifs. Gilded brass hilt w/ folding guard & scabbard lock. Entire hilt has profuse oak leaf decoration. Lions head pommel has 1 green & 1 red eye. Wire wrapped ivory colored grip. Gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina & shows evidence of cleaning. Hilt retains 50% original gilding. Wire & grip are complete. Folding guard & scabbard lock function well. Scabbard body is quite solid. Mounts retain about 15% of original gilding. Scabbard appears to have slightly shrunk & does not fit blade snugly. (02-11222/BF). $800-1200 for lot.
