This mountain man was part of the rugged frontier landscape that disappeared all too quickly. It is very fortunate that Remington was there to capture the spirit of this rugged individual, and preserve it all in such a captivating work of art.
BiographyFrederic Remington (1861-1910) studied at the Yale School of Art, and trained mostly as an illustrator. It was for health reasons that he went West, and later served as a war correspondent during the Spanish American War. He later worked as a magazine illustrator, and began devoting himself to the expanding Western frontier. With a body of work that includes drawings, paintings, and bronze sculpture, Remington has come to be respected as the foremost artist of the American West.
