Based on a design patented by Joseph Bachelder in 1887, this type of indicator was used to record how the pressure in the cylinders of steam engines changed over the course of an operating cycle. This machine was in ads in a variety of publications at the turn of the 20th Century. The selling point was that the instrument was "complete for any speed or pressure, without changing of the spring, and the most convenient outfit..."

Overall good condition and housed in original oak box.
