This Kilij has an unusually long blade with pronounced lengthy yelman, typical of early blades forged in the 17th century. The Shami Wootz pattern is loose but pronounced throughout, characteristic of blades crafted in the city of Damascus in that period. Most likely remounted in the 18th century. The horn hilt with plain silver cross guard and acorn finials banded with silver. Horn grip is of characteristic form. The scabbard is silver mounted with two rings embossed "Chape" and lengthy locket. The one ring is struck at top with Ottoman Tughra. Blade is slightly gray but Wootz pattern is strong. CONDITION: Horn grips in fair condition. Silver cross guard good; silver banding around grip is dented and distorted. Scabbard mounts show considerable wear and denting. Scabbard leather in fair condition with some minor damage. A most attractive and unusual ottoman Kilij. Condition: Dimensions:
