Thank you for your constructive criticism. We take these comments seriously, always trying to improve our business practices. You're right it wouldn't make sense to pack textiles in bubble wrap but for the fact that UPS will not honor a shipping claim unless specific guidelines are followed. It is not often that items get damaged, but given the sometimes rough handling, we want our purchasers to be in the best possible position to receive a refund should the occasion call for it. Since UPS is our primary carrier, we do not use USPS unless requested, but we're happy to do so in the future if that is your wish. We do hope you'll give us another chance as we sincerely appreciate your business.

We regret you were displeased with your auction experience with Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates. Often, we use recycled materials as it saves the buyer on pack costs, which is what we did in this case. Using a smaller box would have resulted in an extra pack cost as there are no small recycled boxes available. The shipping charge is not based on weight, rather the dimensional weight (size) of the box, figured by a particular formula. UPS charged an additional $4.00 delivery area surcharge, $4.10 surcharge due to the remote area of delivery, and then a $1.28 fuel surcharge on top of the shipping cost, none of which are imposed by JSE & A. You're correct, it took a long time to get to you. For that we apologize. We notified everyone of the shipping delay on the invoices and when they called to pay. Covid caused substantial delays for us and we have been trying to catch up since then. We also pack in the order of payment. You were pack list number 187 which means there were 186 lots ahead of yours, many of which were multiple items, not as easily packed as yours. Again, we apologize for the delay and do hope you will give us another chance.

As with many businesses, we have not been excluded from the affects of covid. On the surface it make sense to hire more people because of shipping delays, however doing so will cut the hours of employees that have been loyal to JSE & A for years, which is something we choose not to do. There are simply some instances in life we cannot control. We are doing the best we can in these uncertain times. For those seeking to receive their items quickly, we refer them to the local UPS store with whom we work closely and have full confidence.

We regret you were not pleased with your JSE & A experience. As with other businesses, we have had to adjust to a new way of doing business because of covid. We not only notify our customers of delays, but we also suggest they use our local UPS store should they need items faster than we are able to accommodate. Our pack and ship department are top notch and work tirelessly to make sure our customers receive their items in good order. Hiring more staff would mean our existing employees would experience a cut in their hours. We choose not to punish the staff by cutting their hours for a situation which is out of their control. Please know we pack items in the order they were paid. We greatly appreciate your prompt payment, but please know you were number 189 on our pack and ship list. That coupled with a skeleton staff caused the delay.

We regret your wait time. Covid has affected the manner in which we conduct business. While we have done our best to keep up with demand, like many others, we were not prepared to adapt during these trying times. In so far as the shipping costs, they are dictated by UPS. The pack fees are based on an $18.00 per hour rate. The materials we use for packing are often recycled materials to keep the cost down to our buyers. I hope this has cleared-up any questions you may have. We see you have registered for our upcoming August auction. We trust this will be a better experience for you and will do everything possible to ensure that it is.

We strive to get items out to buyer's as soon as possible. According to our notes, it appears we waited nearly three weeks to hear back from you regarding a specific matter before we could proceed with shipping the items to you. The pack fee was $31.06 and shipping via UPS was $74.98. We regret you were dissatisfied with your JSE & A experience and hope perhaps you will give us another try in the future.
