UPS Store 0220-Third Party Shipper is excellent!
Working with Jeffrey S. Evan & Associates is always a pleasure. For my items that required third party shipping, the process went very smoothly. They used UPS Store 0220 and I can vouch that their packaging of my fragile items was some of the best I have ever seen. I cannot say this for every third party shipper, but not only is the Evans auction house a pleasure to work with, but their shipping partners are also top notch! Thank you!

Very responsive to messages and accurate descriptions.
I've never bid with this auction house before so I had a couple of questions. I bought a South Jersey Umbrella paperweight. Accurate description and they responded to my questions very fast. I was a little concerned as they didn't offer in house shipping, but the UPS the deal with was very conscientious in packing my paperweight the way I like and I received it in one day. I will definitely buy from them again. They had a really nice selection of paperweights and although I bid on a couple, I only won the one paperweight. Thank you for a great experience.

AVOID THIS AUCTION HOUSE — Extremely Poor Experience We purchased 6 pocket watches through this auction and deeply regret it. Here is our honest account of what happened: 1. SHIPPING DELAY: After payment was received, the auction handed the items to their shipping partner over a month later. No explanation, no communication. 2. PREDATORY SHIPPING PARTNER: The shipping company working with this auction is, in our opinion, operating in a completely unacceptable manner. For shipping 6 small broken pocket watches, they demanded $150 — and threatened a $10 per day storage fee if we refused to pay. 3. HELD HOSTAGE: After lengthy negotiations, we agreed on a compromise — we would send our own prepaid shipping label, and they would simply place the watches in a box. For this 'service' of putting items in a box, they charged us an additional $48.4. CONDITION OF ITEMS: The watches received were broken. We paid auction prices for non-functional pieces. The combination of extreme shipping delays, an aggressive and overpriced shipping partner, and items in poor condition makes this one of the worst purchasing experiences we have encountered. We will not be buying from this auction house again and strongly advise other buyers to carefully consider the true total cost before bidding — the hammer price is just the beginning.

We regret that your auction experience with Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates (JSEA) was unfavorable. We strive to exceed market standard with every transaction. In response to the points made in the review: 1. The shipping form was received by the UPS store on March 10th. Payment was made to JSEA on March 12th. At this point you were 113th on the list. The lot was pulled on March 12th and soft packed for UPS delivery on March 14th. The lot was delivered to the UPS store on March 18th. Because of the sizable auctions we conduct, it can take up to three weeks for lots to go to the UPS store-as referenced in the terms and conditions, as well as on the invoice. An email was sent to you from JSEA notifying you when the items were being delivered to UPS. 2. Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates works with three UPS stores where we find their rates to be comparable. We choose not to use FedEx as they do not refund the insured amount if lost or stolen. We agree that shipping charges are inordinately high at this time. Given your location as compared to ours, that adds to the fees. JSEA has no authority over what UPS charges or their conditions. 3. Following is the published condition report for the lot purchased: "Condition Fair to very good overall condition with wear, surface scratches, and nicks, cases with one or more dents and/or worn spots/losses to finishes and engravings, at least three dials with one or more hairlines, some hands with spots/areas of loss to bluing and/or rusting; New York Standard 15-jewel with detached minute hand that is included. Illinois 17-jewel and New York Standard 11-jewel watches currently running but not timed for accuracy, remainder not currently running and in unknown working condition." The report speaks directly to the issues mentioned in your review.

Never received my items.
Have been waiting to receive my items for over a month, I have been run around in circles waiting for this auction house to get my items to UPS and getting a shipping quote. One of my pieces was even broken when they were packing. After over a month I finally I received a ridiculous shipping quote from their UPS store for another $300-$400. Doubling my cost for this lot. They refused to cancel the order and had the gall to offer me to consign the same items with them and make more money on fees on the same items they'd already sold.

This review is quite disappointing and contrary to the conversations we have had over the past several weeks. When the breakage occurred, JSEA notified you immediately, apologizing for the error and sent you a refund in an amount to which you agreed. When you then contacted JSEA about the shipping cost, we offered to bring the lots back to the gallery at our expense and attempt to accommodate a more reasonable amount. We do not handle shipping, but rather refer clients to a local UPS store to facilitate the process. The other option offered to you so as to recover some of your investment, was to re-consign the items in your behalf. The fiduciary duty of every auction house is to protect the consignor and ensure that they get paid for their presented items. We stand by the way this matter has been handled and will let the excellent JSEA reputation, not skewed perceptions, prevail.

Few items had cracks or damage but for being as old as they are.
Items cost more to ship than purchase price at auction. Not the sellers fault. Just did not realize $140 purchase + $560 shipping cost. $700 for 18 items $39 each item not bad. Considering damaged prior due age factor. Getting the items took time. Best item was solid amethyst punch bowl by Northwood. Typically stress cracks from age. Has those which are typical of period creations. Overall satisfied with purchase. Punch bowl valuation of $10, 600 was 40 years ago. Weight of items explains cost of delivering such hefty items.

We work with multiple UPS stores and they all are in line with one another but you are right, it is very expensive. We hope this will not stop you in the future from joining us. Superb item-shipping slightly confusing.
The item was well worth the relatively long wait that I had. I never did receive a tracking number, so I was confused as to where the shipping stood. But, as noted, the item was superb and desirable.

A ten hour drive was worth it
After the October 17 auction I made the decision to pick up the two auction items I won-a large stained glass window and a heavy brass fire screen-in person. In hindsight, it was a wise decision. The 580 mile round trip from eastern Ohio to pick up these items was an all day event which began before sunrise and ended after dark. The staff at Jeffrey Evans was courteous and helpful. I passed through some beautiful scenery on the way to the auction house. I realized that even with very careful packing, the risk of breakage or damage was high so I'd recommend whenever possible, to pick up fragile items in person. Now driving 580 miles round trip may be a bit extreme but it was worth it to me.
