I will bid again
I was very impressed with the overall professionalism of the not only the auction, but also the organization. The pieces I won were fairly graded and in great shape. I then drove to the auction house to pick them up and met Jeff and his staff, who were very cordial and helpful. I will definitely bid in future auctions.

Excellent service except for the high cost of sending the lot to the UK
Bidding online from my little cottage in southern England was very easy and JSEA communicated very clearly after the sale. Payment was easy. JSEA also delivered the lot to the local UPS Store, which should have saved some of the costs of postage. But the only option I was given (other than coming to the USA to collect the lot) was to use UPS, whose website made it clear that they would charge whatever they liked and I'd have to pay (without a prior quotation). The cost of sending the very small and light package to the UK was exorbitant and I had to pay UPS whether I liked it or not. Although UPS stated on the package that the item was "George II", it didn't actually state that that meant "antique", so the UK customs charged me import duty and 20 % value-added tax, so I'm in the process of trying to recoup some of this charge because antiques have no import duty and VAT at only 5 %. If I used JSEA again, I'd try to negotiate a cheaper method of sending the lot and check that the word "antique" is used on the docket!

No In-house shipping is an issue
A single item (a 10x13 "unframed print) won on a $60 bid, ended up costing another $50 for their packing and shipping fees, despite my attempt to have the item billed on my account. UPS is as fault as well for not properly communicating how the receiver should be billed, but House's additional charges were still exorbitant.

Be Careful of the shipping charges
See my review below regarding shipping. A lot of talk no action 1. There was no “forgiveness” on the charge unless you are saying the original amount for 4 gold rings was more than $57.11. That’s what they charged my card. 2. There was no option of shipping you MANDATED who was doing it, read your own email. Here is something you haven’t heard. From the Apr/May auction I bought a small bronze, a small print, 3 pieces of silver and not 4 gold rings but 2 gold rings. You shipped all that to the same address. You know what you charged me? Try $50.68! Did I complain? No that was legit. Now this time your MANDATED shipper charges $57.11 for 4 gold rings. You don’t see something is wrong here? Did you lose money on the May shipment? So 13 % more to ship a lot less weight and volume. Face it you are aligned with a crook. You can reply to this with more nonsense about being offended by language and that’s fine, but if you endorse a crook what does that say about you?

Shipping is a Scam Apparently Mandated by Jeff Evans
I have purchased from them many times. Always before in house shipping. It did take longer, as I now see some of these reviews indicate, than it should but it was at a reasonable cost. This time AFTER purchase I got this email “In order to have your purchases shipped, you will need to complete the attached form and, along with a front/back copy of your credit card, return to UPS Store # 0527 as indicated at the top of the form. Once you have completed this step, please let me know, and I will schedule your lots for delivery to the UPS Store. Please note: Upon receipt of your purchase (s), UPS Store # 0527 will immediately pack your item (s) and charge your card for the shipping. They will not provide an estimate, prior to charging your card.” I buy daily NOBODY has ever wanted copy of my card. Then the bill comes $57 + to ship 4 gold rings that sold for a $450 bid. UPS website said $18.70. They charged $9 for a box Uline says is $0.58. I contacted the auction first. A lot of talk no action. Then the shipper they didn’t see a problem. Then the auction – they were more concerned with my potty mouth than their mandated shipper stealing from their customers. So my recommendation is bid 1 bid less than you want to pay because they are going to get you on the shipping. Or if you are like me and don’t like getting ripped off avoid altogether. I hate to post it but they have all heard it and went quiet so nothing else for me to do. BTW the UPS Store you list in the terms is not the one you force the customer to use-ODD Get rid of the crooks and i will buy again if not so long

Our highest aim is to see that the customer is satisfied. At any given auction we are managing 600 invoices. Our shipping department does an excellent job managing these invoices. Because JSEA is phasing out in-house shipping, we offer two other means by which customers may receive their items. Both are local UPS stores since UPS insures antiques, and not all shipping companies do, unfortunately. Many auction houses leave the responsibility to the buyer to arrange their own shipping, independent of the purchase. We seek to make the transaction as easy as possible. We cannot dictate how UPS conducts business; however, that being said we reached out to the UPS store on your behalf. I believe there was some forgiveness in the amount that was charged to you. You are correct, we do not tolerate "potty mouth". It is quite off-putting and we see no cause for it.

You Need The Patience of Job
I purchased a piece that measured approximately 8 inches in each direction on Aug. 24, 2023 and paid the invoice immediately. I didn't get a shipping quote until Oct. 3rd which I also paid immediately. And I finally received my piece today, Oct. 19th. That is a total of 56 days from start to finish, the longest it's ever taken me to receive a purchase at auction over the last forty years. Forty years! And lots of double-talk whenever I inquired about what was happening. You've been warned.

Never again will I spend a penny with Jeff Evans! One of the owners agreed that the description was ambiguous yet they would not honor their mistake. Bidders beware! Find another place to spend your hard earned money. There are thousands of alternatives.
