(1835-1933) Union brigadier general of Maine volunteers who fought at Malvern Hill, Fredericksburg,Chancellorsville, Petersburg and Fort Fisher, and commanded a brigade in O. O. Howard’s corps at Gettysburg. War-date manuscript D.S. ‘A. Ames’, 1p. oblong 8vo., ‘Head Quarters 20th M[ain]e Vol.’, Feb. 16, 1863, a list of special orders which have not been received and published. Ames signs boldly at the conclusion as colonel of the regiment. Shows some spreading to the ink in the signature, with folds, a few stains and mounting remnants to the verso, otherwise in very good condition.
