Description
This map depicts Northern India within the Mughal Empire, with an insert showing the Bay of Bengal. It dates back to 1775-1780 and was created by R. Bonne and Raynal. The map is sourced from 'Histoire Philosophique et Politique des Etablissemens', an important work from the Age of Enlightenment featuring contributions from Diderot. Due to the controversial nature of the questions and issues raised in the work, including topics such as religion, commerce, slavery, and contemporary politics and society, its publication was banned in France. Consequently, it was published in Geneva, Switzerland. The map is copperplate engraved and comes with guaranteed authenticity. It is in overall very good condition, measuring 14 1/2" x 9 1/2".
