Description
An officer's wheellock pistol, Nuremberg, circa 1640Two-stage, smooth bore barrel, round turning to 16-faceted, in 12.5 mm calibre. The mark "B.." and floral engraving struck at the breech. The lock fitted with a slightly domed plate and external wheel. Spring-lock pan cover. The Nuremberg proof mark and the master's mark "HW" with three crossbow bolts (see Stöckel no. 3171) stamped on the inside of the lock. Lavishly carved full stock in walnut with finely openworked brass nose. A fully sculptured dolphin's head on the forearm and a mascaron of a bearded man on the tang, both with inset, mother-of-pearl eyes. Brass butt cap with relief decoration and leaf mascaron, remnants of gilding. Trigger guard, ramrod sleeve and tip made of openworked brass with floral embellishment. Length 52 cm.Condition: II
