The most important early map of Liberia, issued shortly after its founding. First published as a separate map in 1830 by Anthony Finley based on the cartography of Jehudi Ashmun, it appeared in only two known atlas editions by Finley and is considered rare. This example, from a very scarce 1833 edition of Finley’s New General Atlas, is virtually identical to the 1830 dated version except for the date. The best sources of antiquarian maps online do not account for this map appearing this late in a Finley atlas. Therefore, it may be even rarer than the 1830 and 1831 known editions.
