TITLE/CONTENT OF MAP: 'China'
A large, detailed map of China, including Formosa (Taiwan). The track of George Macartney's Embassy to China in 1793, the first British diplomatic mission to the country, is marked: "Hindoostan and Lion with the British Embassy to China 1793". The expedition was led by the warship HMS Lion, commanded by Captain Sir Erasmus Gower, and the Hindostan, belonging to the East India Company, was commanded by Captain William Mackintosh.
