Collected from Accurate Surveys. Where unto are added the Flowing of the Tydes & Setting of the Currents as they were observed by Capt. Edmd. Halley'
Antique folio sea chart of the English Channel from Kent and Dunkirk to the isles of Scilly and Ushant. There are several coast profiles along the top, and a decorative title cartouche top left which notes that the tides and the currents have been marked according to the observations of Edmund Halley. Best known for calculating the orbit of the eponymous Halley's Comet, he made also important and original contributions to cartography, including the first map to show the direction (indicated by arrows) and timing of the tides (indicated by Roman numerals) on a map of the English Channel, making it one of the first thematic maps.
