Item Details
Description
Two Dutch Game of the Goose boards, including De Toovenaar (The Sorcerer). Amsterdam and Metz: Erve Wijsmuller, and Imagerie Gangel, circa 1856. 14 x 19 1/4 inches; hand-colored lithograph. Framed; together with, Toovergodinnerspel (Magic Goddess Game). Amsterdam: Erve Wijsmuller, circa 1856. Hand-colored lithograph. Framed. Light toning and creasing, with a few pale spots, not examined out of frames.
These two Game of the Goose boards, retailed by Erve Wijsmuller in Amsterdam, are both reissues of French games published by the Metz-based Imagerie Gangel. The only differences between the two issues can be found in the titles and rules, which were translated into Dutch, and their modified imprints. Both boards contain some anti-Semitic imagery, especially the sorcery-themed De Toovenaar.
