(1825 - 1892) Union Army brigadier general during the Civil War, one of the commanders of the famed Philadelphia Brigade. Manuscript D.S., 1p. 4to., Philadelphia, April 7, 1856, a requisition for two recruiting flags and halyards for Burns’ recruiting station. He signs ‘Wm W Burns’ at the conclusion in black ink, adding his contemporary rank ‘1st Lt 3rd Corps’ and ‘Rectg off [recruiting officer]’. Shows original mailing folds, slightly ragged at the left edge and mildly toned at top, otherwise in very good to fine condition overall.
