
Description
(1817 – 1892) Confederate brigadier who also served in the armies of the Republic of Texas and the United States. When the Civil War broke out, Lane was among the first Texans to call for secession. Lane participated in the battles of Wilson's Creek, Missouri, Chustenahlah, Pea Ridge and both the Siege of Corinth and Second Battle of Corinth. Lane also led the 3rd Texas at the battle of Franklin, Miss. Rare D.S. ‘W. P. Lane’, 1p. oblong 8vo., Harrison County, TX, July 25, 1860, a promissory note issued by Lane and O. C. Taylor to pay J. L. Russel. Also signed GEORGE BOZEMAN ADKINS (1810-1875), prominent hotel keeper and local judge. Toned central fold with a small split at left edge and wear to margins, overall very good.
