
Description
(1808 - 1886) Union brigadier general, on the board of police commissioners for the New York Metropolitan Police Force. He raised regiments, which were formed into a brigade which he commanded. Sent to New Orleans, he served as Provost-Marshal, General Department of the Gulf. War-date partly-printed D.S., 1p. 4to., New Orleans, April 4, 1863, a receipt for the commutation of five rooms in that city for the month of April. Bowen signs twice in black ink, certifying that the information is correct and that he has received reimbursement, and adds his rank ‘B Genl’. Shows original mailing folds, faintly toned at the top edge, otherwise in fine condition.
