Description
mid 19th century, 111 x 212 cm, Central Asia, middle Amu Darya valley
This Beshir chuval presents a mina khani field design and a border of rosettes and serrated leaves that is typical of the provenance. The elem is decorated with three horizontal rows of small offset blossoms and a row of flowering plants placed above them. Bags in this huge format were not produced by any other Turkmen tribe. These chuvals were probably not used in tents, but in the houses of the winter quarters.
