Description
mid 19th century, 56 x 60 cm, North West Persia, Azerbaijan
This red-ground sumakh bag face used to be part of a khorjin. In the field, four blue octagons with a green box at their centres fill almost the whole of the surface. Two octagons only just visible at the upper end reveal that the design is a repeat. The flexible handle, colour scheme and border design are typical features of Khamseh Shahsavan weavings.
