Length:94.5cm(37.20in) Width:26.5cm(10.43in)This is an excellent landscape and figure painting by Chen Shaomei. The painting depicts a courtyard scene beside the lake. An old tree stretches its branches laden with pink and white blossoms. Elegant rocks, lush grass and red railings line the waterfront, with rippling water and rolling distant banks creating profound spatial depth. A lady stands quietly in the courtyard with refined hairstyle and delicate gentle features. She wears a pale apricot wide-sleeve robe with ancient patterned trim and a blue inner garment. Robe lines are powerful and fluent, combining the vigour of northern landscape painting with the grace of beauty painting. The inscription at upper left reads: *Guiwei autumn seventh month, Shaomei Chen Yunzhang*, sealed with two red seals. The colour palette is fresh and elegant, with well-balanced composition. Integrating landscape, flowers and figure, the painting presents tranquil poetic charm, representative of Republic-period lady painting. Original vintage mounting, the paper bears natural age toning, in good condition
