Some horses bend down to drink by the stream, some stand proudly on the hill, and others gallop freely across the meadow. The anatomical structure of the horses is rendered accurately, combining western realistic modeling and traditional Chinese freehand brushwork. The manes and tails are painted with unrestrained cursive brushstrokes to convey strong dynamism. The background depicts a light-colored countryside landscape with clear streams, weeping willows, distant mountains and grassy slopes, creating an open pastoral scene. Inscribed and sealed at the upper right corner, with an additional studio seal at the lower left. Mounted as a flat panel and well preserved. Xu Beihong is celebrated for painting horses, using steeds to express uplifting and vigorous spirit. This group painting of eight horses features a rich composition with balanced motion and tranquility, a classic example of his signature subject.
