Lot 0259
"Evil Defeated" By Charles Sims (1897):
Oil on canvas painted in an impressionist/symbolist style of a central tree made up of serpent-like shadowy males. Six nude females run from the evil. The tree's leaves and flesh are painted in an impasto style as opposed to the smoother background. The Eve figure grasps a dark blue serpent in her hand as she begins her escape. The wide, beveled frame has a combed finish.
