Benjamin Blyth (American, 1746-1811). A pair of pastel portraits of husband and wife, Captain John Collins (1753-1784) and his wife Mary (née Stuart, 1756-1816), painted ca 1776, the year of their marriage, in Salem, MA. Housed in matching original giltwood and painted frames, thought to have been made by the artist's brother Samuel Blyth; 19.75 x 13.75 in. (each, sight).
Both portraits with hand-written inscriptions to back, misattributing them to pastellist John Johnston (Boston, 1753-1818).
