VIROT DE SOMBREUIL CHARLES DE: (1725-1794) French Lieutenant General and Governor of Les Invalides during revolution. Heroe of the Rocourt battle. Virot de Sombreuil was guillotined in 1794, accused of the murder attempt of Collot d´Herbois. Signed certificate Sombreuil, one page, oblong folio, Paris, 12th July 1790, on the printed stationery of the Hôtel Royal des Invalides, to Pierre Demoulin, in French. The attractive partially printed document, signed by Virot de Sombreuil in his capacity as Governor of Les Invalides, is an admission certificate to a solicitor. Also bearing an attractive vignette to the lower left border. Small stain and very small tear to the left edge, folded, otherwise VG £80-100 Jean-Marie Collot d´Herbois (1749-1796) French Actor, Dramatist and Revolutionary. President of the National Convention June 1793 and a Member of the Committee of Public Safety 1793-94. Although he saved Madame Tussaud from the guillotine, d'Herbois administered the execution of more than 2,000 people in the city of Lyon during the Reign of Terror.
