1746 Pirates BRAZIL French NAVY Louis XIV Illustrated Memoirs of Guay Trouin
René Du Guay-Trouin was a famous 17th-century French privateer known for his career in the French Navy. He was notable for his sea victories over the English and the Dutch which helped propel his ascension under King Louis XIV, as well as his expedition to capture Rio de Janeiro in 1711. His memoirs of these voyages were eventually published even though he never wished them to be available to the public.
This 1746 edition of Trouin’s ‘Memoirs’ was published in Amsterdam by Mortier and features impressive illustrations including a map of Rio de Janeiro and engravings of sea battles.
