They are annoying and make it very difficult to arrange pickup. They also threaten to charge $10 per day for delayed pickup.

They were not willing to identify the consignor of the painting which is usually important to establish "provenance". They didn't realize the painting was from a well known art educator from Purdue University-Philip H. Best (1 **********)

Description was so poor on most objects and photos not good at all. I will not buy from them in the future.

I like the auction house very much. Occasional they have the wrong attributions. However so do some of the people they are referencing. They are hard workers and try to provide a good mix for the marketplace.

In calculating premiums, which may be different for cash/check payments they originally charged me less than I should have paid. As I was afraid that if I paid the amount on the Invoice, that they would later realize their error and it would take longer. After bringing the error to their attention, it took even longer for them to issue a revised Invoice. They need a better system of calculating the different premiums in order to not lose valuable time, especially for those that need to schedule items for pick-up and shipment.

I tried to use in-house shipping service. In practice, Westport Auction gave item to local shipper, and the whole communication and payment was with them. I expected one invoice with item and shipping cost and one payment and communication only with the auction house (standard in Europe). I wanted pay by credit card directly in auction house (by phone call), but I had only possibilities to pay by PayPal site. Everything else worked well.

Two things need to be improved for this auction house:-As an internet buyer, I was charged for 28 % premium, 3 % more for using credit card;-Even though the items I bought are really small, I did not get any help on shipping from this auction house, and I was charged about $45 for several small medals by third shipping party. If I could get small items shipping help, that would be a great help. If they don't make some changes about above two things, I will not buy from it any more. Thank you for giving buyer chance to speak out complaints.

Instead of pocket watch movement I won for $700 I got few boxes of clock gears with some empty boxes. Contacted them but they play idiots and told me that I got what I won.

Bidding online is tricky with some latency. In one bidding during final three calls were in progress, one of my new bids was not recorded or missed the cut-off. Suggestion-invoke a shot-clock display, which would be short, say, 3-5 seconds so the bidder knows if there is time left during the three verbal/written calls for more bids.

They need better descriptions, if you're selling online put the time in to truthfully describe the item.

Even so I was in their computer as a customer, it took them more than 2 hours to approve me. I missed one lot which was very important to me. I bought three items but only two were on the emailed invoice. After complaining about it I was told that the third lot was sold to someone else! I was bidding online and received an email confirming that I was the high bidder on said lot. After I picked up the other two lots (four hour drive both ways for a total of eight hours) I received an updated invoice with the third lot. I refused to pay for the third lot. Westport auctions apologized thereafter.

There was confusion about which UPS store to use. The stores which were listed on the liveauctioneers website near Westport would not pick up at the Hawthorne warehouse. I had to contact Westport directly to find out which UPS store to use.

It was like dealing with the most heartless bureaucratic institution. I didn’t realize I had to organize my own shipping. I was told it was written in the agreement. The cost of the shipping was quite high for the price of the purchase. In most cases when you say you didn’t realize the extent of an action or the required subsequent actions you get someone who listens and proposes options The person I was corresponding and talking with was completely heartless and not open to discussion or proposing options I found it quite of another world, another time.
