BONAPARTE, Napoleon (1769-1821). War Commendation Signed by Napoleon as First Consul. St. Cloud, “Prarial l’an Ouze” (May 27, 1800). A printed parchment document signed by Napoleon at bottom center, as well as the Minister of War (possibly Jean-Gérard Lacuée - signature is faint and illegible) and the Secretary of State (most likely Hugues-Bernard Maret - signature is faint but partially legible). Sight approximately 17 x 13 ⅞”. Matted and framed under glass. Frame size approximately 12 ¾ x 9 ¼”. Some visible wear to document and one vertical and three horizontal creases. Fine. A commendation of a Captain of the 16th Light Brigade (Charles Witz) from the Department of War. It breaks down his details of service along with “Capagnes, Actions, Blessurea” (campaigns, actions and wounds). Showing service in Portugal and Spain, the commendation is signed by the officials mentioned above. There is also a seal at the bottom left corner which reads: “Au Nom Du Peuple Francis, Bonaparte 1er Consul.” Not examined out of frame.
