
US Model 1842 Musket by Springfield with Bayonet

.69 caliber. 42" barrel secured by three flat, spring retained bands. NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, walnut stock. Single shot percussion smoothbore muzzleloading musket with brass blade front sight, no rear sight, sling swivels and an iron trumpet head ramrod. Standard Springfield lock markings, dated 1848 at the tail and with the mismatched date 1853 on the breech plug tang. Standard proof marks, no visible cartouches on the counterpane. Includes an original US M1835 socket bayonet, a period wooden tompion and a reproduction white buff leather sling. {ANTIQUE}

Condition
Good. Bore moderately oxidized and pitted. Metal with moderate oxidation and a mottled gray and brown appearance with scattered surface oxidation, some minor roughness and some lightly scattered pitting. Barrel with a significant narrow impact mark near the breech. Markings in metal mostly legible, none in wood. Mechanically functional lock. Wood with moderate wear, showing heavy use, and some bleaching along the comb. Wood with numerous scattered bumps, dings and mars.
