(1820 – 1886) Union major general who distinguished himself as a commander of regular army detachments in the Western Theater, wounded twice during the Battle of Stones River. Good pair of signed items, includes: A.L.S. ‘Jno. H. K.’, 2pp. 8vo. ‘Lookout’, June 21, 1865 to ‘Mackay’, likely Bvt. Brig. Gen. Andrew J. Mackay. In part: ‘Genl [William] Stedman tells me that I am to Com’d Northern Georgia, now is it possible to get a private car turned over to the Asst. Qr. Mr. who may be assigned to duty at Atlanta? I think that as I shall have to travel a good deal one ought to be furnished… My new Adjt. Genl has applied to leave me ‘cause I don’t want him. He was thrown from his buggy the other day & is now in bed…’ He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original mailing folds, otherwise in fine condition. WITH: War date signed endorsement ‘Jno H. King’ in black ink on a 3.25 x 1.5 in. slip of paper cut from a larger document, with the date ‘Augt 5th 1863’ and his rank in another hand. Shows archival tape mounting remnants on the verso, otherwise in fine condition. Two pieces.
