(1813-1879) 'The other General Sherman', Union brigadier general, appointed to brevet major general in the last year of the war for his distinguished service while fighting in Port Royal, Corinth, and at Port Hudson, where a wound cost him his right leg. Bold signature ‘T. W. Sherman’ in black ink on a 8 x 2 in. slip of paper cut from the conclusion on a letter, adding his brevet rank ‘Mah. Genl. U. S. A. Rtd.’ Shows folds, with cello tape marks and mounting remnants at the left edge, and with an ink biographical inscription at bottom left, else very good to fine.
