
Description
(1825 - 1910) Union telegraph officer assigned to the War Department who worked closely on a daily basis with Lincoln. Lincoln invited Eckert to Ford's Theater on the night of his assassination, but he was detained by Stanton. Nevertheless, Eckert was at Lincoln's bedside as he approached death. Signed carte de visite photograph, ‘Tho T. Eckert’, 2.5 x 4 in. b/w, marked with a ‘Collection of Americana Frederick H. Meserve’ stamp and, in pencil, ‘Signed Apr 4, 1910’. Fine. With an engraving of Eckert.
